William was my great grandfather who emigrated from England with wife Isabella Hornsby to Canada. I do not know where they landed. They lived in a small log shack in the Township of Goulbourn, Ontario, lot 16 [south] He bought 100 acres of land from John Bruce in Jan 1831. SW 1/2 lot 16.and built a log house which was still lived in until 1960. William and Isabella raised 11 children in the log house. children born 1830 - 1851.

My three brother and myself were born in this log house.  Didn't hurt us one bit. 

There is some question regarding the maiden name of William Featherston's wife. Some parts of the family, including  those who wrote a family history in the 1970's list her name as "Ornsby". "Ornsby" has carried through as a middle name in a few places. Other records list it as "Ormsby". I have never before seen it listed as "Hornsby". "Ormsby" is maybe correct, as the early records for Goulbourn Township list an "Ormsby" among the early settlers and those who immigrated to the New World tended to do so as extended families.

The Goulbourn Township death records list the date of death of Isabella Featherston as Aug. 2, 1881, record Co. Northumberland, England as her place of birth.
