HENRY MALCOLM DAVIS (1879-1956) Birth Certificate No.35313.spouse: Clifford, Francis Mary Matilda (1883 - 1943)
Henry or Pop was born in Brompton, South Australia. His mother died in1883 and his father died in 1886. We understand Pop was placed in anorphanage shortly after his mother died, we do know from his storieslater in life that he worked in a mine when he was 11 years old.
We have written to all the authorities and churches in South Australiatrying to locate any records of Henry Malcolm Davis being in an orphanageor as a State Ward, to no avail.
Because Pop was an orphan and most likely in a home by the time he was 4years old, he had no personal effects or even memories of his parents. OnMarriage Cert. No. A66059 Pop married Francis Matilda Clifford (1883 to1943)in the residence of George Russ in Killingworth N.S.W. by WilliamHughes, Lay Methodist Church, in 1906, when he was 27 years old.Witnesses were Clarissa Cordelia Russ and James Henry Hodson. Francis'family were in Adelaide before 1845 and lived in and around Black Rock(Black Rock and Oorooroo are all situated just below the South FlindersRanges). They may have come to NSW together, but as Pop had been a minerin South Australia he probably came to Cessnock seeking work in the coalmines. On 20/11/1956 Pop recorded asa Miner died in the Royal Newcastle Hospital Cert. No. D88201 ofCongestive Cardiac Failure. He was laid to rest in the MethodistCemetery, Cessnock.
