6th Draft
Added more members now a total of 46 and added a new feature of Second Site that is extended tree's not all are covered as yet but I would appreciated your feed back. See a full list of those members who's Gedcom's are displayed.
Tidied up a few names that were capitalized in the original files- hope I have caught them all. Taken out a few obvious mistakes as and when I have found them.
You will find that I have tried to make the head of each of the family lines stand out a little from the rest- if you see a reference number which ends with the letter "a" this means that is the head of that particular Featherstone Tree.

I am still finding the odd error- one that must be done soon is to remove the Full Caps surnames in some entries but the bigger the file gets the harder it gets.

First Draft
As you will know if you have read the recent newsletters, this project entailed combining members GEDCOM files into one file. The first problem I had was making the information contained in the GEDCOM files of a common form so that I could sort on all the fields. This took me three months, having first removed all the details of living people using a fairly basic program that looked at the information contained in the individual GEDCOM's and took out any person it could not determine was deceased. Because of the lack of information in some files, like a death event, it removed quite a few people who were quite obviously not around any more. I had to replace events with a simple Note saying this person is living, otherwise we have a lot of relatives who are well over a hundred years old. For this reason alone the files need checking again and next time I do something like this I will do it very differently. But it has been a lesson in data entry techniques.
In the first draft there is an error in a membership number that will be corrected in the second draft. To see a list of members contained in this first draft please see this list.
The file still contains some errors. These will be rectified in the next draft which will also contain more of the files I have been waiting to input; I had to stop inputting the files in an effort to meet the deadline I set myself for the first draft. There are 5886 events in the present file, there is another file that contains Featherstone female lines and those who married into the Featherstones. This file contains 4100 entries at present that I will make up on the final draft.
The file then contains the following information.
Most of the entries contain a birth, marriage, death, but there are lots of other information; Occupation, Residence, etc.
A date this follows the convention a= after, b=before, cir= about, bet=between. other wise dd/mmm/yyyy
Event Misc. Apart from the obvious, some abbreviations occur, such as Mil-beg=Military Beginning Mil- end=Military end. If you see a Note event it probably means the person is pressumed alive- however since they are grouped by name in the file you can soon tell if that is the case, as other events are present. I have tried to remove other note events and replace them with life events, however this has not always be possible in every case.
Our ID In an effort to make some effort to keep track of any changes that need to be made, they bear no reference to anything apart from the way they were input.
Mem Ref.. This tells you who the information came from. See this list for a list of the codes.
Name These have been sorted in Alpha order to the best of my ability, again there are errors which I will attempt to correct in the next draft. I have done my best to correct name entry errors and moved any prefixes that spoils the sort, these are still retained in the main data set but in a name variation. Also some married names have been input as bracketed in the proper surname, most of these I have endeavoured to change to a married name variation which is still retained in the main data.
Place detail: not always in existence but enough entries warranted its inclusion.
City/Town- again not always in existence but again more than enough to justify inclusion.
County- This was probably the most used entry field, but lots of different abbreviations used- now sorted to the best of my ability.
State; To stop guessing again at abbreviations the full state name has been used. I have not used the country option, basically to save space, but might have to reconsider this option in the next draft, they are retained in the main dataset.
