BROWNSBORO - Services for Sid Featherston, 76, Brownsboro, are scheduled for 1
p.m. Monday at Carrol1-Lehr Funeral Home chapel, Athens, with the Revs. Bill
Hamilton and Danny Martin officiating. Burial will be in Ash Cemetery, Henderson
County.
Mr. Featherston died Saturday morning in a Tyier hospital. He was born Nov. 2.
1914. in Brownsboro to the late Thomas Alexander and Alice Green Featherston. He
lived in Brownsboro most of his life and was a foreman for Cotton Belt Railroad
for 32 years. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, Brownsboro.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evie Beatrice Ewing Featherston, in
1988, and a son Modon Featherston, in 1986. Survivors include his wife, Mary
Dickens Featherston, Brownsboro, sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Johnnie
Featherston, Chandler, Robert and Sondra Featherston, Mesquite, and Eddie and
Phillis Featherston, Tyier; daughters and sons-in-law. Sue and Kenneth Calhoun,
Brownsboro, Louise Cooper. Athens, and Carolyn and Keith Attaway, Mineola;
brothers, Louis Featherston, Chandler, Vernon Featherston, Billy Featherston and
Pete Featherston, all of Brownsboro; cont.
sisters. Belle Perry, Brownsboro, Cleo Palmer, Tyier, Mozell Blackledge, Dallas,
and Martha Willingham, LaRue; and numerous grandchildren, great-grand-children
and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Dudley Calhoun, Scott
Featherston, Tommy Featherston, Wayne Cooper, Rodney Featherston, Rob
Featherston, Austin Featherston and Thomas Dickens.
James Stephenson, J.C. Moffeit and Boots McClain will serve as honorary
palIbearers.
Family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Floyd K. "Slappy" Martin, 58, of Route 1, Fleming, died Dec. 1, 1995, at his
residence. He was born on Fleeman's Run, Noble County. Ohio. a son of the late
Roy and Almeda Featherston Martin. He attended Elk Township schools. He had been
employed at the Chrysler plant in Trenton, Mich. and at Marietta Concrete Co.
before being associated with William Blacktop Co. and was a supervisor at the
time of his death. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and boating and was a member of the
Washington County Fish and Game Association, Marietta Aerie 458 Fraternal Order
of Eagles. Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1823 and B.P.O.E. Lodge 477.
Surviving are his wife. Donna Zimmerman Martin; two sons. Tony Martin of Fleming
and Richard Martin of South Rockwood, Mich.; three daughters, Cynthia Martin of
Marietta, Candace Adams of Adrian, Mich. and Charlene Martin of the home; seven
grandchildren; one brother, Malcolm Martin of Lancaster, Ohio; three sisters.
Bonnie Miller of Lowell, Patty Hilverding of Stafford. Ohio and Clarice Smith of
Warner, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four
brothers. Wayne Martin, Earl Martin, Veri Martin and Marvin Martin.
Services 1 p.m. Tuesday, McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta, the Rev. Gary
Fitzgerald officiating. Burial Gravel Bank Cemetery. Visitation from 2 p.m.
today until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

They buried Ernest Featherston Monday. Whatever cosmic formulas determine the
number of years assigned to each of us they had allocated nearly 95 of them to
Ernest before darkness closed in on him New Year's Day.
He had been a Doughboy. in grateful remembrance of that. Ski Demski marked the
day of Ernest's burial by flying Long Beach's most celebrated flag at half mast.
And Ernest's family marked it by carrying his lean and elegant shell to the
graveyard in the same uniform he had worn home after the Armistice in 1918.
It girded a size 32 waist back then, and the size of that waist had not changed
much in the nearly seven decades since Ernest joined the Fourth Division, U.S.
Army, and shipped over to fight the war against Kaiser Bill.
"Eat little, walk a lot," had been his regimen.
