SAVANNAH, Tenn. A noted British author and historian, and a descendant of Ulysses S. Grant will be among Civil War enthusiasts who will stop here next week as a part of a 10-day tour of battlefields.
Donald Featherstone, author of 20 books, and Margaret Grant, a great-great-great-grandniece of General Grant, will visit Shiloh and the Cherry Mansion in Savannah, which was Grants headquarters before the battle of Shiloh.
Featherstone is gathering material for a new book on the Civil War. He and three other historians from England began the tour in Atlanta Tuesday. Featherstone said the tour is not so much for research as to put my feet on the actual ground where the fighting took place.
The group is scheduled to arrive in Savannah Sunday night and will visit the Shiloh National Military Park Monday. Featherstone will lead an informal discussion at a gathering of Civil War buffs and descendants Monday night.
