V Daniel Marshall Featherston - b. 28 Mar 1793 Chesterfield Co., VA, d. by 13 Apr 1816 - ca. aged 23y - of a wound received during War of 1812 - family tradition (Smith Co., TNWill Bk. I. 1815-1816. p. 198, lists the inventory of his estate, the only such inventory listed on Featherston surname in this book). Court Minute Bk. #6, 1815-1817, p. 68, "date Tuesday morning, 13 Feb 1816, on motion, Edward Featherston, was appointed Administrator of the estate of Danl. Featherston, dec'd., who qualified together with Samuel Britton his security entered into bond in the sum of Two thousand dollars, conditioned as the law directs." Edward was Daniel's brother.

DEEDS: In the lower left hand corner of most old deeds, you will find the signature of from two to four witnesses. The first one is always from the husband's side, the next is always from the wife's side. That is to protect her "dower" right under the law and gives a clue to the wife's maiden name.

Featherstone Family in Southside VA


The list of the children of William and Susannah Featherston at the bottom of the page states that #1 Burwell Featherston lived in Nottoway County, Va., in 1810. The 1810 Nottoway deed cited here was made by the
grandson of William and Susannah Featherston. Burwell, the son of William and Susannah, died ca. 1808 when letters of administration were granted. (Nottoway Co., VA Order Bk. 5, p. 374)
