I Charles Featherston - b. ca. 1635 England, emigrated as a headright of Major Abraham Wood to Charles City Co., VA in 1653, d. ca. 1681. He settled in that part of Henrico County that later became Chesterfield County, and on 19 Aug 1672 was granted a tract of land of 700 A. This land is described as being on the north side of the Appomatox River corner to the orphan's land of Mr. William Walthall, near Timbury Run Plantation, now the site of Petersburg. In 1679 Charles was named in a list of '40 tythables' ordered by the court to 'fit out arms and men'. He was assigned a quota of three men. In August 1682 his widow, Rebecca, was granted administration of his estate. She later married Samuel Newman. Sources: N.M.
