Irish genealogy has always been seen as one of the most difficult parts of the world to find ones ancestors. Although there is no contents index to this part of the site we are working on it and it will appear as soon as possible.
As Featherstone is not an Irish name in the true sense of the meaning- then how did the name get to Ireland, there are one or two instances of the name appearing in the 6 counties (what is now known as Northern Ireland) the majority though appear in what the English call Southern Ireland. Officially now Eire.
It is reported that one of the Featherstone Castle tree fled to Ireland after a battle in the English civil war, that is a reported fact- if it is true of course is not known- what of course is known is that Cromwell tried to solve the "Irish Problem" by giving estates to English landlords and also could be how the name became established in Ireland. In an attempt to start somewhere, we have produced a database of information taken from several different sources, if you can add to it- then we would be pleased to add it to the information.
The counties of Westmeath and Roscommon, appear to hold the key and looking at the Irish wills will prove to some extent the landholding of the Featherstone's in Ireland. We are always looking to add to the content of this part of the site, if you can help please contact the webmaster
